Perhaps watching videos on UA-cam intimidates people as they see all the luggage and the packing, and the things going wrong. All you need is a bike, a credit card and somewhere to go. So far, my "trips" have been one day ventures, so no overnight planning involved. There's plenty of interest within range for that. Favourite so far is Lincs to Whitby along the coast roads, then return inland. A good chance to check out the vampires, buy some jet for my wife (a must!!!) and see where my mum trained on anti aircraft guns during the war (gun emplacement was next to the Abbey). Wish trip is Scotland west coast, my dad was born in Glasgow (the Gorbals) so loads to revisit (by bike for once). Cheers, Andy.

      That's to make sure people don't use centre stands. Mechanically you have to have weight on the swingarm. A paddock stand is fine to use also. Side stand is perfect if that's all you have.

    I would love time trials, because I’m not that competitive, and have no illusions about my skill level. Something where I could just enjoy it and try to improve on my own times and learn in a more casual environment. That would be really fun. I’ve seen people racing minibikes like a Grom or TNT 135 on go kart tracks, and that looks like a riot. I’d also like to try riding on a dirt flat track, just to see if I could get the hang of it. Basically anything that didn’t require a huge financial investment and uses the structure and competition to make it more meaningful, without going overboard to where it’s ruined by people taking it way too seriously.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker 4 дні тому

      Exactly that, I like to try improve my own times, change lines etc and see how it works out. That's why I love the idea of endurance racing, you just have to do the best you can, consistently, it's much less of a do or die make the pass type thing. Yeah any bike on a track honestly looks like a blast, I've never not had fun, even on my old CBF1000 and that thing was HEAVY. Dirt is very fun, it's sad there's not more of that here or I'd be doing it. Yeah you have a lot of that even at track days, people turning up with race bikes in novices and riding like they're on trial for motogp.....always funny to see.

    I would imagine getting slapped by Gorilla biker would hurt, really, really bad. Is it hard to watch Rugby from the US? I suppose probably not with the internet. I find those interesting at this point in my life. This ramble got me thinking about your GSXR. Do you iRace? Tires and brake pads was pretty much my racing budget for the few years I did it. The internet is silly, keep doing what you want to do. OC: Have you ever thought about one of those autocrosses but for bikes? It's at least something I haven't done but looks like fun.

    🤔I thought that was what stickers were for, to cover the rusty spots and dings in the paintwork. That is how I always used them 🤣. People with comments to make about larger riders should address them to Trevor Nation, Terry Rymer, or currently Loris Baz. The Dakar Rally is my fantasy. When I was young I used to go to Silverstone regularly with my Dad to Various club events, Bentley Drivers, Jaguar Drivers, Veteran and Vintage meetings which all featured handicapped races. They were always entertaining. I don't know if such things still exist. I look forward to hearing, seeing reports from your next track day. Thank you. 👍

      Hahaha well if that were the case that'd be fine. But that truck is like 40k and is not old so stickers on it's paint is madness :D I enjoy a nice tasteful sticker over a dent or scratch tho :P Oh I get them all the time. They usually do it privately on instagram though as I feel most people are cowards. Brave of them to think I won't share it either way :D Baz is a beast. I've lost 10kg recently, want to lose another 10 or so and I'll be happier. I'll never be a skinny build human but that's alright :) I'd love to do the Dakar. Was always harder to watch but I used to get magazines that'd cover the whole thing and the photos and stories were and are incredible. A true endurance race. That'd be cool, endurance racing and time trials are my current goal as I feel they're the most achievable :) Hopefully I'll get a camera setup that passes tech!! :)

    Good vid! I like the idea of some form of time trials. Something that gives you a measure of your improvement (hopefully 😂). I did some karting (only a few times, indoor and outdoor) and absolutely loved it. My size/weight was a disadvantage (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!!) but I was still competitive and it was enormous fun. I loved the accuracy, the slightest error on a corner and watch the guy in front leaving you....... I'd like to at least do a bike track day one day. Cheers, Andy.

    I like looking up the SHARP ratings, but it can be a little confusing, as it uses the European model names for the helmets, which often don't match what they're marketed as here in North America. I was going to make a Michael Dunlop comment about the visor, but you were on to it already! I was watching that live and was aghast. Where else but at the TT would a guy pull over, fix his helmet, then complete the race?! As big of a shock as that was, he got the win today on the Paton S1-R in the Supertwins class. I think that bike is so cool, it was amazing to see him make history on it. I hope he knows what a massive inspiration he is. He's on the same level of Wayne Gretzky, George Best, and Michael Jordan to me. A standard above the rest, and a true legend.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker 10 днів тому

      Me too. Didn't mean to mention it so late in the video. I didn't realise that actually, me with my silly Euro head :D Ah stop I was watching live as well and I was roaring at the tv when it happened. Absolutely gutted for him he was unbelievable. He's the goat now since yesterday. Watched the on catch up after work, great race too. The Paton is very cool but I actually prefer seeing the attainable bikes in the twins. Like I could own an R7 etc. A Paton? If I win the lotto maybe :D You'd hope so. Regular man with a passion and talent. Absolutely and utter legend.

    Good review. I have a basic MT "flip up" (I wear glasses) but would like a Shoei, so HJC seems a good compromise. My purchase was based on fit and comfort (there's a Sportbikeshop about an hours drive away, so spent a good 45mins wearing the helmet in store while buying the rest of my gear). Cheers, Andy.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker 10 днів тому

      I still like MTs, very good helmets and safety ratings for the price. I want a Shoei, I think most people do but they are so so pricey. HJC have never let me down, every helmet has had it's foibles but it's always been minor. Oh that's a genius way to do it!!

    I used to be very fastidious about buying helmets. I used to use Boeri, and later FM (Fimez). Both brands saved my life. My favourite was my FM Giancarlo Falappa replica. Here life is cheap, and accidents are the norm. You can go to a street vender and buy a cheap helmet and try it for fit. I was stuck the other day without a lid for an unexpected pillion so we stopped at the nearest second hand helmet seller and got a perfectly good helmet for $6.00. If you want a pukka lid you normally have to buy online. It is very difficult to find any size other than Large or Extra Large as people like to ride with their cap, or hat still on their head, and their mobile phone stuffed up inside their helmet so they can carry on talking as they ride. My current lid is a motorcross style made by KYT. It is the same colours as my VIAR and came free with the bike. That is a normal practice here. My KYT certainly would not get an ACU gold sticker and only carries the local DOT style approval. So brand is no guarantee. KYT build helmets here that are only specific to the Asian market and I believe other manufacturers do the same. So one might say that here people don't pay the money and still take a chance. A good video review. 👍

    Good video,I have 2 hjc helmets one is the cs-15 I used to wear when I was working at the steelworks it's a lower priced cs-15,comfy and well made,the other is the rpha 70 a mid price helmet with a drop down internal tinted visor I wear while touring and day trips, excellent value for money and super comfy,the only negatives I have for both helmets is the forehead liner material has a piped type stitching that after taking off helmet leaves a horizontal red axe type wound to one's noggin, cheers from south Australia.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker 12 днів тому

      Their cheaper "commuter" targeted helmets are great, the FG ST was brilliant, didn't wear as well as the RPHA but you wouldn't mind that. The 70 is a nice looking helmet, nearly went for one but I didn't go for it due to the drop down visor for track, wanted the extra crash passing :D Ahhhh yeah I do have a nice line left on my forehead too now that you mention it, never bothered me tho as it doesn't rub say. Ah nice! I want to visit Australia some day soon!

The 2 rolly vents on top tend to stick. You know theres a vent on the inside of the chin to? that might be the cause of air flow Dunlop definetly coulda done with that. I'd say he was causing murder in the paddock after. it cost him about 2 minutes, he had such a good lead. The rachet is shit, it's either up, a jar, closed or locked. tis wank Great review
